AYCMQ webinar discusses impact of corona virus on climate action

The current corona virus crisis has created grave uncertainties across the world. In response, most governments have introduced unprecedented measures to curb the spread of the virus and mitigate the economic fallout.
One major question is that if the devastating impact of the corona virus pandemic will destroy the momentum that climate movement has built over the years. Climate activists ask if the economic fallout will push climate down the list of priorities for governments, and the postponement of the UN Climate Summit COP26 in Glasgow in United Kingdom will diminish the united ability to address climate emergency.

Neeshad Shafi of the Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar, Henriette Walz of the Rainforest Alliance, Roula Majdalani of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia and Dr Miguel Clüsener-Godt of Unesco’s Man and the Biosphere Programme.
Environment experts from the United Nations will be among the speakers as Qatar Foundation (QF) and the Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar host an online discussion on June 9 about why nature and sustainability must be at the heart of international efforts to build back better after the coronavirus pandemic.

UN Climate Change News, 11 September 2019 – Ovais Sarmad, Deputy Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change, delivered a lecture on the urgency of tackling the climate crisis at the Qatar National Library in Doha today. He also talked about what young people can do to keep up the momentum for climate action. At the end of his talk, the audience had the opportunity to engage with Mr. Sarmad in an open Q&A session.
