AYCMQ aims to bring eminent environmentalists and development professionals across the world to discuss on global environmental issues to integrate with the local challenges. The series also aims to improve global consciousness of the environment among the citizens and residents in Qatar. There will be eight annual lectures featuring four international speakers and domestic speakers throughout the year.
Today every commercial product is recognized by a brand ambassador, either it is a luxury watch or washing powder. AYCMQ will organize a program where it will select committed individuals (mostly youth) to be the brand ambassadors of the environment. The topics will range from terrestrial ecosystem, oceans, seed conservation to renewable energy, waste management, voluntary simplicity, etc. After a rigorous selection process, the individuals will be trained to dedicate part of their time in advocating a cause. Each ambassador will be trained to communicate their ideas in an accessible format to a wider audience. Consequently, the ambassadors will get opportunities to represent AYCMQ in different forums, attend international youth conferences/summits, travel grants to present their findings on community engagement, etc. This will enable youth to be serious about the natural system that is taken for granted.
Households, industries and businesses are the three major units of the economy. All units contribute to national emissions. Some more than others. AYCMQ’s target is to engage with the communities to reduce household carbon footprint. Proceeding this campaign, ACYMQ will collect data from the households through surveys, identify the potential areas of concern (high emission sources), and work with the community to develop innovative, creative and feasible solutions. In addition, we will not only explore wider barriers and challenges in implementing solutions and behavioural changes, but also assess a broad range of current research and practice demonstrating how these can be overcome. Therefore, this will be an ongoing campaign targeted at different levels and age groups to reduce household carbon footprint. Effective technical solutions and behavioural changes that can leverage change will be documented and policy recommendations will be proposed and promoted effectively to the policy makers and concerned authorities
